Our Mission

Alliance of Moms is a community of philanthropists who support pregnant and parenting youth in LA’s foster care system so that they can build a positive future for themselves and their children.

“When I needed help, I knew I could reach out to the Alliance. They’ve gone out of their way to help me and my child. It’s good to know that, even when I am at my lowest, I have someone to reach out to.”

— Karen

Who We Serve

Our programs support young parents ages 14 - 21 who have experienced foster care.

In Los Angeles County, nearly 60% of young women in foster care experience at least one pregnancy by age 19.

  • Children born to parents in foster care have a higher likelihood of entering foster care themselves.

  • Only 58% of youth in foster care graduate from high school on time.

    Only 10% graduate from college.

  • Over 1 in 5 youth in foster care report experiencing homelessness. Compared to non-parents, expectant and parenting youth are more likely to have experienced instability and food insecurity, and are less likely to be employed.

We are working to change this story and these outcomes for resilient mothers and their families.

Who We Are

We are a community of moms for moms.
With support from our members, we:

  • create parent education, self-care, and wellness programs

  • fund the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ Healthy Teen Families program

  • provide holistic solutions and the critical interventions young families need to heal and thrive

Alliance for Children’s Rights

Our members support the work of the Alliance for Children’s Rights.

The Alliance for Children’s Rights protects the rights of children and young adults impacted by foster care. By providing free legal representation and social services, and by advocating for broad solutions through ground-breaking child welfare policy reform, the Alliance clears barriers to stability and opportunity so that young people and families can access the support and services they need to thrive.

The Healthy Teen Families program at the Alliance supports hundreds of young parents each year, providing access to prenatal care, parenting and wellness education, childcare, baby essentials, employment, housing, and healthcare—aiding them with the resources they need to break the inter-generational cycle of children being removed from young parents in foster care.

"Alliance of Moms taught me how to raise healthy kids. Not just healthy kids physically, but emotionally."

  • This year the Alliance provided free legal advocacy to more than 250 expectant or parenting youth.

  • Alliance social workers take part in over 400 Expectant and Parenting Youth (EPY) conferences each year where they help young parents access the services and resources they need to parent successfully and transition to independence.

  • Young moms recovering from crisis need support to stabilize and rebuild their lives. Our social workers clear barriers to healthcare, housing, education, and childcare.

  • This year's Love Like a Mother T-shirt campaign generated nationwide awareness and raised over $200,000.

  • Over the past year, we educated nearly 600 expectant and parenting youth about the Emergency Child Care Bridge Program, which provides essential child care so mothers can continue to work and stay in school.

  • AOM members created virtual programs and resources for young client moms on topics ranging from financial literacy, to early brain development, resilience, and parenting tips.

  • Essential items for young moms and their children were donated, gift wrapped, and delivered throughout the year.

  • The Alliance also works to change systems and policies to address the racial inequities that prevent young parents in foster care from succeeding and thriving.

“Life could throw anything at me and I won’t stop, especially now that I have my daughter. I love her more than words can explain. I’m determined to make sure she lives a better life than me.”
